Last Sunday (April 28th, 2013) I was invited to join DJ Lost on his radio show FastOsloW, broadcasting on nsbradio.co.uk, the worlds largest breaks and breakbeat oriented online radio station. From his studio in Oslo we blasted various beats to the world for two hours with DJ Lost on the decks for the first three tracks, then me taking over for the next three and so on. It was such great fun! A huge THANK YOU to DJ Lost for inviting me!

The guys behind FastOsloW, DJ Lost, Mr. Nobody and Contepella have been broadcasting their weekly radio show for more than six years straight. Now thats dedication! Tune in through nsbradio.co.uk every Sunday from 11am-1pm GMT / 12-14 Norwegian time to get your dose of broken beats and bass.

Shout outs to Archietech on the show The Tasmanian Connection for playing good tunes and actually pronouncing “Skjeggemannen” pretty decently on the intro to our slot, and to Delsa with his Total Niceness Show taking over the stream after FastOsloW.

If you´re on Facebook, find FastOsloW here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/FastOsloW/98255077981

gdtox035: Skjeggemannen – Garage et al

gdtox035 cover photo

Wow, it’s been a while.
The last time I posted a mixtape here was in November last year, that’s almost a year ago! Time flies, life is very busy.
When I lived in New Zealand I noticed something, bass, there was music with bass everywhere. In the shops, at the pub, at the burger joint, either dubstep or drum’n'bass, or any other genre with bass. Everywhere. So somehow I’ve been affected by this. The music I listen a lot to nowadays tends to be fairly bass focused. Weird that…
A genre we haven’t really explored much here at the Clinic is the variations of “Garage”; UK Garage, future garage, post-dubstep, dark swing, 2step etc.
I’ve really fallen in love with these genres and their hybrid relatives. This weeks mixtape focuses on just that, garage et al, and is dedicated to my Whanau in New Zealand, wherever you are in the world. <3

We are not gone, nor have we forgotten the clinic. We are, however, a bit busy. That’s why we’ve invited guest DJs to contribute a set to the clinic. A big thanks from us to Agen and 300AD for helping us out. If you, or somebody you know, want to contribute an episode, let us know! Also, check out 300ADs website if you want to listen to more mixtapes!

It´s time again for another release on The Clinic. This time it is actually served to you from Yangjiang, China. I am detouring a bit on my way to Norway from New Zealand. The Late Sunday Brunch for Breakfast mix was first served sunny side up back in April. It is a collection of music neatly prepared along with a late brunch after a hard day out Saturday, giving you some tunes to nod to, to move about to, or just sit back an relax and reminisce about the previous nights fun. These mixes also tend to work well later in the afternoon, so set fire to the firepit and go ahead.

I would also like to dedicate this edition to my dear friends in New Zealand which I now have left behind. Thank you all for making my four year stay as fun as it was! To those who came the final farewell bbq…
Legen…………dary…
The flight to Hong Kong was not as fun as the bbq, I can say as much.

Enjoy!

It´s been a while since the last release now, both Cinaéd and me have had rather busy lives with lots of travel and other projects taking up time. But, hopefully we will now get back to regularly scheduled releases about every two weeks or so. We have some new clinic staff working on exciting future releases as we speak to fill the release schedule the coming months to feed you all with new music. Interestingly our download numbers have been steadily growing despite the lack of releases since our commemorative episode in July too. Please help spread the word of this podcast to all your friends, it´s more fun to explore new music with others :) And, if you have a band, or know of a band that wants to let more people know about them, send us an email with some music. We´re happy to listen!

Until next time…

22/07/11

Yesterday, three days after the greatest, most heinous attack on Norway since WWII, I (Cináed) was at the square outside city hall when thousands and thousand of people gathered to mourn, and show the world that we would not be terrorized into fear. I will never forget when the crowd, talking amongst each other, suddenly fell silent in an instant and raised their flowers. From the silence arose a faint sound of voices, then grew as we all joined in, singing our national anthem, humbly and quietly, but strong in numbers. In HRH the Crown Prince’s words: The streets are filled with love. The thought of it still sends shivers down my spine.

This is not a patriotic statement, nor a funeral service. I have not made a careful selection of songs, but instead chose a handful I like. Some are mellow, some are more cheerful. We will be completely honest with you. This episode is neither planned, nor well thought through. But we felt like doing something. Norway is a nation in grief, but we are not a nation in fear. 200 000 people in Oslo, only a few hundred meters from the blast, proved that yesterday.

Til Dovre Faller!

In gdtox012 I presented a collection of tracks with the common heritage of being jazz or inspired/remotely related to jazz (this release has by the way been proven to be very bbq friendly). Here I present the next follow-up in that series. We here have both old classic recordings, and new more experimental ones but with both jazz under- and over-tones crisscrossing all the musical layers. All in all I totally adore this kind of music and all it´s hybrids.
As a little technical experiment I decided to load my ipad up with the tracks needed for this release just before some recent traveling, and ended up mixing the whole thing together at 37000feet on the ipad somewhere between Sydney and Los Angeles, thereby the “37000ft edition” moniker.
Hope you enjoy :)
